Frontrunner for best new association blogger of the year (and a little-known fact)

by Ben Martin, CAE on December 9, 2008 · 2 comments

Now that we’re a few days into December, I’ve been doing some thinking about which association bloggers are at the top of the list for my annual best of the association blogs awards. As any past recipient will tell you, being named is the pinnacle of a career in the association industry (see last year’s recipients).

We’ve had a bunch of new entrants to the community of association bloggers in 2008, but to me, one is standing head and shoulders above the others, and that blogger is Frank Fortin. Behold his latest thoughtful post about association crisis communications in a socmed world on his Guilt by Association blog. Subscribe to this one, if you’re not already subbed.

Little-known fact: ASAE’s Acronym blog ALMOST got a name based on a play on words around the phrase guilt by association. If ASAE had just done what the volunteers suggested, Acronym would have been called “Built by Associations,” but someone rightfully put the kibosh on that name. Good show. Acronym was the fallback name, but in hindsight, the better one.

There’s a piece of Acronym history I didn’t know! You learn something new every day on the internets …

(And I completely agree that Frank Fortin is a wonderful addition to the association blogging community. I always read his posts as soon as I see a new one appear!)

There are some truly awesome new bloggers in the picture – I’d mention Maggi McGary, Lynn Morton, Bruce Hammond and Renato Sogueco just for starters. Really really awesome. I love it (although I am feeling like an old fart already, now).
