Thanks to my guinea pigs at Regional AE Conference for sitting through my first-ever presentation on effective uses of social media in associations. As promised, here are the handouts from the session. And following are the slides, if you’d like to review them.
And if you’re just dying to know who the associations are that are effectively using social media, in my humble opinion:
- ASAE & The Center
- National Association of Manufacturers
- American Society for Microbiology
- Illinois Parks & Recreation Association
- Association Forum of Chicagoland
- Virginia Association of REALTORS (in the presentation not because I think they’re particularly effective, but because I’m an expert on our programs)
- Society for Word of Mouth
- Lexington-Buena Vista-Rockbridge Association of REALTORS
- Dulles Area Association of REALTORS
- Social Networking and Media Association

InfoComm isn’t on there just yet, but it soon will be!
We should come up with a Delicious tag for great examples of association social media. The wiki is cool, but a tag would be a good place holder. I recommend “DUDESWEET” but I’m open to suggestions. (In other words, I’m too slow to think up something that makes sense.)
Thanks for the slideshare, Ben.
Thanks very much for including Acronym and ASAE & The Center in your presentation, Ben! It was really interesting to see the lessons learned you pulled out from all of the examples you chose. Definitely an inspiring presentation!
@lindy: As I’m sure you’ve found, the backstories to these social media sites are more important than what you see on the surface. BTW, I’m afraid to click through to the link on this page: http://del.icio.us/tag/dudesweet
@lisa ASAE’s backstory is really compelling, especially from my standpoint as someone involved at the launch and whose blog subscriber count was overtaken by ASAE’s efforts.
@matt I need to hear about your results sometime soon.
