Association social mediaphiles must be “the virus from without”

Rob Hahn is one sharp guy.

I recently had the good fortune of hanging out with Rob for several hours as we advised the National Association of Realtors on their social media manager position. Recently, he posted some advice to the sucker who took the job newly-hired social media manager, and his advice was so spot-on for ANY association social media manager, that I simply had to share it with you. I’m replacing NAR with your association for clarity.

…be the “virus from without”. Your task is to make your association more like you: open, authentic, honest, and constantly in touch… You must “infect”… your association to become transparent. Just as you have always been one of the most authentic human beings [in the real estate blogosphere] over the years, so you must infect the rest of your association, the state associations, the member organizations, and indeed the association members themselves to be more authentic, be more human, and be more connected.
