Online collaborative work spaces

I’m in the early stages of preparing for a presentation on web-based collaborative technologies. If you’re using an online service to collaborate with members or other stakeholders, how about leaving a comment here? I’d love to hear what you think are some of the most useful collaborative technologies for my presentation.

I don’t even know if it’s a possibility to actually do this, but… if you work for a company that provides such services and would like to look into sponsoring a wireless access point for session attendees to use during the presentation, please contact me offline or by leaving a comment.

Hi – I’m currently using google documents and google groups to communicate and manage files with volunteers. I have a google group for each volunteer group (5 at this point). Having a copy of the threaded discussion really helps me look back at what we’ve discussed and figure out next steps.

The documents are great. I can access all the documents from one page but give volunteers access to the individual documents that make sense for them.

Also just started social bookmarking and inviting members to tag articles of interest to create an information resource for the community.

Good luck with your project!

Yes, I’m also a big Google Docs fan! Thanks for the tip on Google Groups, Kathryn.

Dear Ben,

I am also working on a presentation in a related area, “Science 2.0: Connecting Scientists through the Web.” I’d be happy to compare notes.

Best,

Bob Rich

I also use Google Docs with my business partner with our consulting firm (SeaCrest Company). We also use an online file storage service called Strong Space. It serves as a “network” for file storage and sharing.
