J-Nott has an interesting series of posts going over at the Association Renewal blog on the role of design in business. He points out that research and innovation are not necessarily incompatible, but that research can stifle innovation. It’s been said that innovation is meeting the unarticulated need. If the need is articulated in research, then is the response actually innovative?
Research has a place in innovation, but asking obtuse questions like “Would you buy X?” or “How much would you pay for X?” doesn’t.
